You are now to begin to focus in on an element of your project. This can be daunting, but you should see it as an opportunity to head down an avenue that is rich and interesting for you. This is your extended writing for component one which consists of 1000 - 3000 words of an investigation linked to your own project.
Your task over for this week is to immerse yourself in 'reading around' your subject. Find and read articles from the web and books, visit the library, listen to podcasts and interviews.
Keep a record of the articles and interviews etc that you have gathered. You will need to use these in order to formulate your focus.
By the end of this week, you will be submitting your focus in writing, together with examples of articles that you have accessed.
Next week you will be drafting your first 750 words.

- The topic must relate to Art or Design
- The topic should be something that you are genuinely interested in
- A topic should provide you sufficient material to write about, while not being so vast that your project becomes all-encompassing, disjointed or surface-deep
- Contrasting and comparing the work of artists can be helpful
- Select a topic that is supported by quality reference material
- Word your title so that it captures the essence of your Personal Study and indicates a well-chosen focus
